Onsite Data Security Options ( ROI)
We offer the following service options to address the data security of clients’ end of life IT equipment. We believe that all of these processes will ensure complete data security, but for those entrusted with decision making in this area, who have to weigh up cost versus perceived risk, this document gives a clear overview of the options available.
- Standard Service – collection of assets from site, processing, including data destruction, at our facility.
- Point to Point Collection –standard service, as above, but with a same day courier service and SC cleared staff.
- Supply of Blancco Licenses –standard process again, but clients can data wipe machines at their own site first, prior to collection, using Blancco software provided by us.
- Onsite Data Wiping – we will send an engineer to the client’s site to data wipe assets, prior to collection by our courier and then our standard process.
- Onsite HDD Destruction – we can provide an onsite HDD shredding process, for physical destruction of HDDs.
- “Shred and Re-use” – For assets with sufficient value, we can combine the HDD shredding service with our standard process, by replacing shredded HDDs with new ones.

Assets with a high enough specification to be re-used are tested, to ensure they are fit for resale, donation or redeployment. - Data Destruction
All data is removed from data-bearing assets via either certified disk wiping using Blanco software, for assets to be re-used, or physical HDD destruction if assets are to be environmentally disposed of. This can also be done on site. - Environmental Disposal
Assets that either fail the testing process, or are deemed not fit for re-use at the audit stage due to being of low specification, are recycled via our recycling partner, where all component materials are recycled and re-used.
IT DISPOSAL ISSUES
The following issues are the principal areas of concern for organizations with IT equipment to dispose of:
- Data Security
Secure movement of data-bearing assets from clients’ sites to our warehouse, and then comprehensive data wiping and hard drive destruction processes are a vital part of our service offering. Media damage aside, The Data Protection Act 1998 also means that handling data correctly is a legal requirement. - Environmental Legislation.
The WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations were implemented in the UK on 1st January 2007, and the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) came into force on 1st July 2006. Adherence to these pieces of legislation means that organizations now need to take the disposal of redundant IT equipment seriously, and the use of certified service providers and methods is mandatory.
- Cost.
For those organizations that use high specification equipment, use a high proportion of laptops against desktops, and have a strict refresh lifecycle of 3 to 4 years, IT disposal should be profit generating exercise, so the ability of their service provider to maximize revenue via the resale of assets is very important. At the very least, even if CSR and environmental performance are more important, they may at least demand an overall zero cost solution. For those organizations with older, lower specification equipment, or with small volumes to dispose of, competitive service charges will naturally be important. - Fully Managed Service
Most organizations require is quite simply a fully managed, end-to-end solution, carried out by a safe pair of hands. A fully accredited service supplier with a comprehensive service portfolio, a proven history of success in IT disposal and excellent reporting capabilities.
Data Security.
Our software and processes are UK Government approved, to ensure complete, accredited data security. Also, we have a comprehensive, end-to-end process that ensures all assets are delivered safely to our warehouse and that data destruction of all data-bearing assets is guaranteed. Evidence statements: please keep in red
Deleting files or formatting hard disks does not properly remove data; it simply makes it more difficult to access. We use Blancco software, which is approved by the UK Government and US Department of Defence. We have a List X accredited processing facility, as approved by the UK Government.
- Environmental Legislation.
Our ethos is to maximise re-use of assets as whole units, wherever possible, as per WEEE Regulations' guidance. Where any assets do have to be recycled, materials are re-used, and nothing goes to landfill.
